The Republicans do not get to control the debate this time around by shifting attention from relevant facts to emotional wedges. Here’s the simple math on Sarah Palin, who would be just one remove from the office of president.
Sarah Palin is under investigation for abuse of power.
Abuse of power is the hallmark of the Bush administration.
Therefore, Sarah Palin is just like the Bush administration.
End of story.
Lest we forget what abuse of power looks like, how about I hit on just a few:
- invade a sovereign nation unconnected to 9/11
- cherry-pick intelligence, lie, and fabricate evidence to justify war
- torture
- launder U.S. treasure through contractors overseas
- hire for loyalty over merit in the justice department
- replace, marginalize, or early retire those who dissent
- expose an undercover CIA operative to punish dissent and send a clear message to others contemplating it
- commute the sentence of an administration member convicted of four felonies related directly to abuse of power: 2 perjury, 1 obstruction of justice, and 1 false statement
