What’s an Independent to do?

I recently read that Fred Thompson really thinks he can woo independents back to his party. Yeah, you know the party that is unraveling at the seams, just like the Whigs over the Civil War. The party that is prolife: except for hundreds of thousands of civilians in a desert, or in a marshland protected by outdated dikes, or in an obscure Southeast Asian nation, or any of a dozen or more places “enemy combatants” have been whisked off to. The party that thinks Parkinson’s Disease is a locker-room joke. The party that thinks racial slurs are OK as long as they’re spoken in a different language. The party that believes the best way to curb government spending is to steal it from the treasury and put it in the hands of private contractors getting paid 3 times as much and with less competence as the US military forces. The party that thinks women do not have the right to take their own reproductive decisions. The party that thinks prostitutes and infidelity are OK … but only if you’re not gay. The one that thinks its OK to surveil you because you’re not doing anything wrong anyway. Right? Right?

There’s no way to dress up the Republican party pretty, even in drag. If you support the Republican party, you support lying, stealing, bigotry, state murder, misogyny, and chauvanism. Oh, and I didn’t even mention the economic refugees that they are trying to turn away by dehumanizing them. Because you wouldn’t want to turn away a refugee, but as long as they’re ILLEGAL, then its OK. Very enlightened [/clap, /clap].

If you’re a Christian supporting the Republican party, maybe you really need to read what Jesus was talking about; not take the word of your clergy on how to interpret it. Take whatever version of the Bible you wish to read and read it. Jesus was a subversive. He questioned authority. He upset the status quo. He gathered men to him, he did not push them away. He was not beholden to the powers that be. Either side, Roman or Jewish.

If you really want to be political and Christlike, why would you pick the moneylending party in the temple? Why would you accept the throwing away of the huddled masses? Why would you worry about the mote in the Democrat’s eye, when a giant beam sticks out of the eye of the Republican?

I’m an independent, and there is nothing the Republican party has to offer that I believe in. NOT ONE THING, FRED.
