Censure Is Not English for Impeach

A new majority was not elected to Congress so that it could make as much a show of checking power as the chief executive has of adhering to the rule of law he is so fond of droning on about. What is required by Congress is action and accountability.

If our leaders can preach about this nation of law, of due process under the law, of equal status within the law, and of blindness in the administration of the law but not really be themselves subject unto that law, then we are not citizens of our nation but a nation of subjects. Our votes cannot matter. Our juries cannot punish. Our laws cannot protect. When agency leaves the hands of the people, democracy itself soon must fail.

Censure is weak. Censure has no consequence. Censure will merely diminish a man’s reputation that is already lower than the soles of our feet.

Impeachment is an action. Censure is merely a word.
