With George W. Bush in office, the United States is a short man’s steps from republic to triumvirate to empire. A constitution only has meaning if men and women are willing to serve it by serving the people it was crafted to protect. Impeachment is necessary to press this republic into the future, not just to punish executive wrongdoing. It matters more that future presidents be mindful of their place within the laws of this republic than that this Congress may pass no further legislation while engaged in the impeachment process.
